This activity is based on Prince EA’s video entitled “What is School For?” I recommend you watch it before deciding to show it to students. There’s no profanity obscenity, but it does make you think… wait a fucking minute…?! Before watching the video as a class, you’ll have students answer two slides on their own. One asked for a 7 word sentence explaining what school is for and the other asked for their personal definitions of school vs learning. You will watch this video with students (possibly a few times as needed) and then transition them into groups to complete the slides together. Students will be pushed to think about some topics that even we as educators question: 🔥 What IS school for? 🔥 What are importantly things that Prince EA points out aren’t covered in school? 🔥What are 3 things schools should stop teaching? 🔥 If you could create a curriculum, what would students learn? 🔥 Should all kids be taught the same thing? 🔥 Why are so many kids disengaged in school and learning? 🔥 How can we fix these issues? 🔥 And so many more!
